Croatian and BiH NGOs together against nuclear waste dump in the Una river region

The plan to build a nuclear waste dump on the Trgovska gora was prepared a few years ago, but the issue became hot at the beginning of 2003 when Croatia and Slovenia signed agreement on Nuclear power plant Kr?ko. NPP Kr?ko is situated on the Croatian-Slovenian border. In socialist Yugoslavia it was owned by both Croatia and Slovenia (then Yugoslav republics), but a few years ago disputes started over the management of the NPP. As a result, Croatia stopped receiving electricity from Kr?ko. The new agreement gives Croatia its share in NPP again and a possibility to use its electricity, but at the same time obliges Croatia to store half of the nuclear waste. Continue reading
